What are "LETS"

LETS stands for Local Exchange Trading System. LETS enable people to trade different skills and goods locally. This allows people in local neighbourhoods to:

  1. Make the most of their skills
  2. Obtain local help
  3. Build a sustainable community
  4. Have fun

Everyone can contribute and gain from a LETS.

Members identify skills they wish to offer and their current requirements for goods and services and these are shown in My Listings. People can see everything that is offered or wanted in the lists of Offers and Wants.

Members contact each other directly, arrange a ‘trade’ amongst themselves and agree a price in LETS credits known as ‘Canaries’ in Norfolk’s system which are transferred online.

Members may view or receive statements and newsletters, and social events take place, often hosted by individual members, where people can get to know each other and discover new opportunities for trading.

Norfolk LETS is non-sterling, interest-free and debt free. Norfolk LETS is split into neighbourhoods that broadly follow the district council areas, with South Norfolk being currently split into two areas: Chet Valley and Diss.

Chet Valley, Norwich and Kings Lynn and West Norfolk are active neighbourhoods; people interested in getting involved in the other neighbourhoods are encouraged to contact us to develop the other areas of Norfolk.
